Kinetic energy is defined to be the energy associated with motion of a massive object. The equation is KE = 1/2 MV^2. The energy thus depends on the mass of the object but is more strongly associated with the velocity of the object due to the velocity being squared in the equation. The units of kinetic energy is the joule, which is the same unit for work and potential energy. So, we will find the work done on an object can increase its kinetic energy or potential energy. The work-energy theorem in physics addresses how work and energy are related and can influence each other.
